Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has said that it would continue to collaborate with Universal Basic Education Commission(UBEC) to improve infrastructure in schools and increase access to basic education among school age children in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Akinwumi Femi Sunday who made the pledge while playing host to the new UBEC Zonal Director, (South West) Dr. Bola Oyedokun in Ado-Ekiti said the collaboration between the board and UBEC since the assumption of office of the Fayemi Administration in 2018 has been yielding positive results. He said the milestones recorded in the basic education sector in the last two years include 790 ongoing UBEC/SUBEB projects across primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the state, improved training and retraining programmes for teachers in public schools, provision of instructional materials and support for the Agriculture in Schools, School Based Management Committee, School Improvement Programme, and the Schools Sports Programme amongst others .
The SUBEB boss who stressed that the establishment of four model colleges by the present administration with the support of UBEC had tremendously increased the enrollment of school children in public Junior secondary schools in the state capital, solicited greater collaboration with the Commission.
Prof. Femi Akinwumi commended the UBEC State Coordinator, Mr Joshua Arema for his dynamism and dedication to duty. He promised to look into the requests by UBEC.
In her remarks, the UBEC zonal coordinator South West, Dr Bola Oyedokun who lauded the efforts of the Executive Chairman and the Ekiti State Government, requested for greater collaboration between the board and the UBEC. She solicted the support of SUBEB in solving the lingering accommodation problem facing the Commission in the state .
Also speaking, the Premanent Secretary SUBEB, Mr Oluwadare Ajayi who welcomed the UBEC Zonal Director to the state described UBEC and SUBEB as partners in progress.
