The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti State Chapter, has elected Comrade Fatimah Bello of Progress FM as chairperson to pilot it’s affairs.

The election which was supervised by the national leadership of NAWOJ, also saw the election and inauguration of five other officers of the chapter.

The National President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Comrade Ladi Bala called on the newly elected Executives to be committed to the course of the association.

Mrs Ladi Bala urge them not to rest on their war against Gender Based Violence that has become a major issue in our societies.

Mrs Bala who was represented by the B Zone Secretary of the Association Comrade Funmi Adekoya urged members to be diligent and upright in respect of NAWOJ activities. She said the Association is our heritage.

On his part, the Chairman of NUJ in Ekiti State Comrade Lion Rotimi Ojomoyela expressed his confidence on the New State Excos. He said he is sure the new team will perform exceptionally more than they did in the past.

Speaking after the inauguration of Ekiti NAWOJ, Comrade Fatimah Bello who emerged as chairperson disclosed that the new exco are out to render selfless service and ensure that the female folks in the pen profession stand out among women in Nigeria.

She said, “I want to assure you that the next three years shall witness progressive activities that will have positive and direct impacts on the lives of our members. These activities will position Ekiti NAWOJ as a model among it peers. We will improve on our successes by introducing new initiatives that will take our Association to the next level. I urge you all to sustain your supports and cooperation for this Association. NAWOJ is an Association established to protect the interest of women journalists. In this respect, the Association through various programmes has demonstrated the capacity to ensure the protection and success of women in many ways. We have stood firmly against all forms of women right violations in Ekiti State. The records are all over for you to see.

“It is important to mention that Women have critical roles to play in curtailing the alarming crime rate and social menace ravaging our country. Ekiti NAWOJ shall not leave any stone unturned in contributing to the processes of finding lasting solution to the various forms of criminalities bedeviling our land. This will be done through constant enlightenment, educative and informative programmes for parents and their children. This will be done in collaboration with stakeholders and may Allah help us.

“High rate of divorce among couples is regrettable. Ekiti NAWOJ will introduce programmes that will enhance the successes of marriages. We will also intensify our actions against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in collaboration with the office of Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi. As we are all aware that health is wealth, we will ensure that we increase our activities in that respect.”

The new members of Excos includes: Fatima Bello as the CHAIRPERSON, Bimbo Yusuf as the Vice, Adewumi Ademiju Secretary, Funke Rotimi Treasurer, Blessing Olofin as Financial Secretary, and Bukola Odebunmi as Assistant Secretary.

All the women Associations in Ekiti State graced the ceremony.
