There was pandemonium on Saturday at Ipamesan area of Sango Ota, Ogun State when suspected armed robbers engaged policemen in a gun battle.

A security guard attached to a warehouse owned by one Yinka Oduwale was shot dead while the robbers looted the facility.

It was gathered that a distress call was received by the DPO of Sango Ota Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Godwin Idehai, after the incident, prompting him to mobilise his team to the scene.

The robbers, who also snatched two vehicles from different locations, fled on sighting the team.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday.

He said, “On getting to Joju area, and realising the determination of the patrol team to subdue them, they decided to engage the policemen in a gun battle.

“But due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels.”

The police spokesman said the policemen went after the suspects, arresting one of them identified as Henry Obe.

Oyeyemi revealed that one long gun, 41 laptops, two DVD players, two phones, three tablets and two vehicles were recovered from the suspects.
