The stage is set for the November 30 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

No fewer than 6,000 delegates are expected at the national convention billed for Abuja, where delegates are expected to elect a new national chairman and other officers.

The main opposition party was boxed into leadership crisis, following the suspension of its embattled chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, after he was suspended by his ward in Rivers State.

The chairman of the Convention Organising Committee, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who spoke with reporters in Abuja, shed light on the preparation for the proposed convention, particularly the inauguration of 15 sub-committees.

He said: “We are expecting over 6,000 delegates by our new constitution and we are fully prepared for that. We are expecting everybody in every ward that is a delegate to attend the convention.”

The committees listed by Bayelsa State Governor Diri Duoye include the National Convention Organising Committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Constitutional Amendment Committee, chaired by Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel; Zoning Committee chaired by Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and Screening Committee, chaired by Mohammed Adoke, former Minister of Justice.

Sub-committees and their chairmen are Screening Appeal Committee — Ike Ekweremadu; Special Duties Committee — Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike; Accreditation Committee — Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowaa; and Security Committee — former Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase.

Others are the Electoral (statutory) Committee, with Fintiri as the chairman; Publicity Committee chaired by Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and Venue Committee, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

Welfare and Entertainment Committee with Mariya Waziri as chairperson; Transportation Committee, with Ibrahim Dankwambo as Chairman; and Contact and Mobilization Committee with Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku as Chairman.

Protocol Committee with Senator Biodun Olujimi as chairperson; Medical Committee led by Nuhu Zagbayi; and Secretariat Committee led by Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri.

Fintiri, who inaugurated the committee, said the convention would lead PDP to victory in 2023.

Fintiri said members of the sub-committees were carefully selected to organise a credible convention.

The Adamawa governor urged them to make the necessary sacrifices to deliver the best convention to the party.

He said the sub-committees had been given directions to prepare and submit their report to the main committee for approval. (The Nation)
