All Nigeria Latest News reports that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates in the first series of 2023.
In a statement, Patrick Areghan, the Head of the National Office at WAEC Nigeria, reported that a total of 8,348 candidates participated in the examination held in Nigeria from January 31 to February 17, 2023.
He noted that this figure represents a 16 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
Aregan mentioned that out of the total, 4,161 were males, while the remaining 4,187 were females, representing 49.8 percent and 50.16 percent, respectively.
According to him, “only 2,003 candidates (representing 23.99%) out of the total 8,348 who sat the exam obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
“And out of this number, only 971 (representing 48.48%) were male candidates while 1,032( representing 51.52%) were females.”
He said the board withheld the results of 413 candidates due to varied cases of examination malpractice.
“The results of 413 candidates, representing 4.95% of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice,” Areghan said.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course.
“Candidates who sat the examination should visit www.waecdirect.org to check their results.
“They will also be required to apply for their certificates online, through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal website: https://certrequest.waec.ng/.”
