The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed concern over recent kidnapping incidents in the Okemesi/Ido-Ile axis in the state, All Nigeria Latest News reports.
The governor, expressing concern over the concerning trend, emphasized the urgent need to reverse it. He urged the chairmen of the three local governments and development areas in the axis to collaborate with residents and all levels of government to put an end to criminal activities in the area.
Governor Oyebanji, as conveyed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, addressed the issue at his Ikogosi-Ekiti country home on Sunday. This occurred during a meeting with the chairmen and leadership of Ekiti West Local Government, Ekameta, and Okemesi-Ido Ile Local Council Development Areas.
He said, “Let me appeal to us on security because I heard that kidnappers are resurfacing in some areas. We must sit down as a community and as a government to ensure that we don’t allow it to happen because where there is no security, people will run away from such places.
“I will sit down with the chairmen of the local governments to find a lasting solution to that place, we must not allow them. My own vision is Ekiti State where everybody will be able to live well and live a worthy life,” the governor said.
The governor tasked the leadership of the local councils to love and accommodate one another, assuring them that his administration was committed to the overall development of the state.
Governor Oyebanji said his administration had set in motion aggressive rehabilitation of all roads in the area for easy accessibility, adding that efforts were ongoing to ensure effective and efficient electricity supply to the area to boost the economic activities of the people and state.
Olusesan Okere, the Chairman of Ekiti West LG, said the purpose of their visit was to celebrate the Easter festivity with the governor and to tell him that they appreciated what he had been doing since he came to office.
The Council boss, expressing pride in the governor’s achievements within less than six months in office, took the opportunity to request the governor’s support for an institution that could act as a catalyst for the socio-economic development of Ekiti West.
