Dino Melaye, a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, disclosed that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State allegedly implored him to ensure that Atiku Abubakar selected him as his running mate, All Nigeria Latest News reports.

Following his defeat in the party’s presidential primary to Atiku last year, Wike declined to collaborate with the party’s candidate, expressing the view that the embattled chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, should step aside.

Wike, in conjunction with four other governors, had maintained their stance against having both the party’s candidate and the PDP chairman from the northern region.

Dino Melaye asserted that Wike’s opposition to Atiku stemmed from Atiku’s selection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, despite Wike’s efforts to influence a different choice.

Melaye claimed that Wike contacted him around 19 times within a span of two hours, making earnest appeals for Melaye to persuade Atiku to appoint him as the vice-presidential candidate.

Melaye asserted that Atiku’s refusal to accede to Wike’s request led to a plot against him in the recently concluded February 25 presidential election.

He was reacting to a comment by Wike that the former senator would never be the governor of Kogi State.

Speaking in an interview on AIT which was monitored by All Nigeria Latest News, Melaye said: “Wike has no iota of integrity. Wike was calling me when Atiku Abubakar was to announce his running mate. I have records and I’m going to print them out. I’m waiting for him. He called me 19 times in two hours, begging us to convince Atiku Abubakar to make him the vice presidential candidate.

“He was at the airport. I have the video. He spent hours in the airport waiting for me to call him that Atiku Abubakar has picked him as the running mate. He was at the airport here waiting, calling me. I have witnesses. He was begging, promising heaven and earth that Atiku should announce him. It was around 1 or so that I called him that, Oga, nobody go give you vice president. That’s when he left and flew back.”
