Popular veteran Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu is currently lying sick in an unnamed private hospital in Lagos, All Nigeria Latest News reports.
In a widely circulated video posted on his verified Instagram account on Wednesday, the actor sought assistance and prayers from his fans. Mr. Ibu revealed that he has been hospitalized for several weeks, and the medical professionals have indicated that if their next course of action is unsuccessful, they might need to amputate his leg.
“I have been down for so many weeks. All I am hoping for Is your prayers and assistance, as I speak to you I am still lying down at the hospital. The medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is in case his new idea doesn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.
“Just see me, if they cut off my leg where will I go from here? Please, be in prayers for me, talk to God Almighty, I don’t want my leg to be cut off, please. Thank you so much, God bless,” the actor said.
All Nigeria Latest News also reports that his daughter, Jasmine Okafor, appealed to individuals and organizations to fly the actor abroad as he is not getting any better in what she described as “one of the best private facilities in Lagos.”
She said, “As a family, we want to appeal that at this point, people should come to Daddy’s aid and rescue; for the past two weeks, Daddy has been very down, so we took him to the hospital. I have been sorting the bills, thinking I can do it alone. We have been doing everything humanly possible; as a family, we felt it was something we could do on our own for him to be fine, but he is not getting any better.
“He is not getting better; some days, it seems as if he is getting better; some days, it seems like it is getting worse. We are at one of the best private medical facilities in Lagos, and they want to refer us to another hospital because he is not getting better here.”
Mr. Ibu, renowned for his appearances in numerous Nollywood films, recently commemorated his 62nd birthday while confined to a hospital bed. Throughout his illustrious career, he has showcased his talent in over 200 Nollywood movies, including notable works such as “Mr.Ibu” (2004) and “Mr. Ibu and His Son,” which further cemented his legacy in the industry.
