During the plenary session on Tuesday, the Senate confirmed Zack Adedeji as the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Adedeji’s nomination received majority approval from the senators following his screening, All Nigeria Latest News reports.

Speaking prior to his confirmation, Adedeji made a commitment to enhance the agency’s data mining capabilities in order to facilitate informed tax determinations.

The chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service identified the absence of financial data pertaining to both local and foreign enterprises operating within the nation as the root cause of revenue leakage.

Adedeji said, “We will improve our data mining capacity. We will develop the data upon which will we make decisions on taxes.”

In addition, Adedeji pledged to examine the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme. This scheme involves granting certain corporations tax holidays in exchange for their contribution to infrastructure development.
