After a long drawn legal battle, the Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Godswill Akpabio has sworn-in the new Senator representing Kogi Central, Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has upheld the candidacy of Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the validly elected representative for Kogi Central on February 25, 2023.

The court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere for lacking in merit.

In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja nullified the victory of Ohere from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February senatorial election. The tribunal stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan was the rightful winner.

Despite Ohere’s appeal at the Appeal Court, they upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner.

The Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to Akpoti-Uduaghan around 11:41 am, following the Senate President’s directive.

Afterwards, she shook hands with the Senate President, who gave her a copy of the Senate Standing Rules. She then took her seat after exchanging pleasantries with her colleagues, led by the Sergeant-At-Arms.
