The minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and some of his aides were on a chartered jet when it skidded off the airport runway during landing. The plane ended up getting stuck in a bushy area of the airport.

The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, affirmed the reopening of the airport, specifying that it is now operational exclusively for visual daylight operations.
A representative from one of the affected airlines verified that the airport has indeed resumed flight operations.
