The Directorate of Citizens Rights in the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice has initiated legal action on behalf of Damilola Adeparusi, better known as Chef Dammy. The lawsuit is directed against her pastor, Jeremiah Adegoke, and the state police command, alleging violations of the chef’s rights.

Additionally, the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) is seeking N10 million in damages on behalf of Chef Dammy, a 300-level Mass Communication student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

All Nigeria Latest News reports that the DCR further sought a restraining order to prevent Adegoke and the police from re-arresting Chef Dammy.

The legal action follows Chef Dammy’s reported arrest, allegedly on the order of Adegoke, just a week ago.

The dispute between Chef Dammy and her pastor surfaced in October when the 24-year-old chef raised concerns about ongoing threats and intimidation from individuals she referred to as “people of God,” including her pastor.

Chef Dammy had alleged being threatened and bullied by Adegoke.

Adegoke, represented by his legal counsel Bisayo Sule & Co Legal Practitioners, had issued a letter on October 23, requesting Chef Dammy to retract the purported defamatory statement on social media, issue an apology in two widely-read national dailies, and make a payment of N22 million for damages in response to her public outcry.

The Ekiti-born chef was given seven days to comply with the demands or risk being sued.

However, in the suit filed by DCR on November 24, Chef Dammy was named as the applicant while Adegoke and Ajewole Samuel, the State Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, were named respondents.

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the continued harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor, and the Nigerian police, infringes on the applicant’s fundamental human rights.

Chef Dammy rose to fame after her unsuccessful cook-a-thon challenge to break the Guinness World Record in June.
