The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State has upheld the election of Governor Alex Otti in the March 18 governorship poll in Abia State. The court affirmed that the electoral process conformed with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Court dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and their respective governorship candidates against Governor Alex Otti’s victory. The court ruled that the petitions lacked merit.

All Nigeria Latest News reports that the appellate court ruled that issues of political party membership, as put forward by the appellants, is a pre-election matter, which falls within the jurisdiction of the political party.

In its Saturday judgment, the court stated that Governor Alex Otti was qualified to contest the election as he joined the Labour Party (LP), won its primary election, and submitted his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court also emphasized that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate failed to establish a connection between their documentary evidence on issues of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and specific aspects of the case.
