Senator Simon Lalong, former Minister of Labour and Employment has provided reasons for resigning from President Bola Tinubu’s led Federal Executive Council to pursue the role of senator representing Plateau South senatorial district, All Nigeria Latest News reports.

The federal lawmaker spoke yesterday in Abuja after his swearing-in by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate President extended congratulations to Lalong, who previously served as the director-general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaigns during the 2023 presidential election that resulted in Tinubu becoming president.

Lalong, a former governor of Plateau State tendered his resignation as minister to Tinubu on Tuesday.

Lalong expressed his desire to become a senator after completing his tenure as governor in May 2023, stating, “This was my first choice, to be candid.” He mentioned that he temporarily accepted the position of minister at the invitation of Tinubu due to an ongoing legal case he was pursuing.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, has reacted to the inauguration of Lalong. He described it as a moment of happiness.

“This is a moment of happiness. We are so happy that he won at the Court of Appeal.

“What Nigerians will expect is good legislation. As we know, the APC has the majority and will work for the prosperity of all Nigerians,” Ganduje added.
