Ifaki Youth Empowerment Fund (IYEFUND) yesterday, 5 December, beat all logistical challenges posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic, Lagos East Senatorial Bye-election and other induced economic challenges held its First Annual General Meeting at ACHN Tower, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Chairman, IYEFUND Board of Trustees, Surv. Sesan Obe while welcoming guests to the auspicious meeting said IYEFUND will continue to position Ifaki Youths on the track of leadership and self-employment that will give them a sense of purpose and reasons for living.

He said ” At IYEFUND, we believe our youth has the potential to lead if given the opportunity, and the leadership skills can be developed through both formal and informal process. Even more importantly, we believe leadership is about developing and inspiring the next generation. It is time to think about youth and its leadership. Currently Youth are not given much emphasis in their identity and tapping into full potential which give them a sense of purpose and reasons for living.

“The formation of IYEFUND has been very timely and apt. We believe if our young people is engaged, youths restiveness we not be the order of the day. The majority of those working age do not have formal employment and there are few opportunities to get a good education. Earlier this year, government statics showed that 40% of Nigerians lived in poverty, and we are not unaware that 70% Nigeria population are youths which range from ages 16 to 30. IYEFUND will keep working towards enhancing the chance of employability, as well as promote self-employment and entrepreneurship among the youths.”

He appeal to all Ifaki sons and daughters to support IYEFUND initiative through donations.

In his keynote address, Chief Seye Adetunmbi highlighted the key achievements of IYEFUND since inception. He mentioned some of them as;

*Disbursement of funds to empower eleven (11) successful applicants who have scale the rigorous screening of the committee on 25 May 2019.

* SSCE fees of some school students were paid

* Indigents in Ifaki were given palliatives in the wake of coronavirus pandemic

*Enlightenment for Ifaki people and distribution of covid-19 preventive equipments.

* Football tournaments tagged IYEFUND cup among Ifaki youths commenced in 2019.

*Entrepreneurship training to ifaki youths and Mentorship program.

*Catch them young, a capacity building program to all secondary schools in ifaki.

According to Adetunmbi, “One thing that the 2020 AGM points to is accountability which means the project is well managed.

“Initiative such as IYEFUND is not only commendable, it is a step in the right direction. Every networth indigine should contribute to the fund.” He said.

Goodwill messages was delivered by representatives of Ifaki Progressives Union (IPU), Ifaki Youth Council (IYC), Federation of Ifaki Students Union (FISU) and other Ifaki stakeholders.

The meeting which was anchored by Durotimi David Owoeye, Esq have in attendance High Chief (Mrs) Bolanle Owolabi, (The Eyemuju of Ifaki); Hon. Lanre Fayemi, Alhaji Sule Lanre Bakare, Mr Tunde Ojo, Aremo Lanre Agbemuko, Mr Omobulejo Abiodun, Mr S.O Ajayi, Chief Seye Adetunmbi, Surv. Sesan Obe, Otunba Olarewaju, Arc Omobulejo Olusola, Mrs Olufolake Ogunnaike, Mr Familoye Oluwabukunmi.

Also in attendance are Engr. Ganiyu Sule, Mr Olofinkua Fatai, Mr. Yomi Borode, Mr Olarewaju Ibukun, Mr Yemi Ayodele AYENI (YAA), Mr Familoye Olajide, Mr Familoye Samuel, Mrs Tomi Fasola, Mr Niyi Ojo , Mr Ojo Disu, Mr Ibukun Obe, IYEFUND Admin Board Members among others.
